Epiphany - now we see!
The beginning of the New Year can be a great time to lighten up our homes, entertain new guests and get better acquainted. The chief guest - Jesus the Christ has arrived! How do we get to know Christ? That will happen as we engage the Scriptures, build community, and wrestle with faith in the issues of the day.
Jesus comes in when we welcome him, but he doesn't stay in one place very long! The stories from the Gospel of Luke (and one from John) that we will be reading in January and February take us on the road with Jesus and the disciples. We will be hearing "call" stories - "come and follow" - as well as Jesus' activities of preaching and healing along the way. We will notice and wonder about the blessings that flow from Jesus' presence.
"Epiphany" means to make something manifest or to reveal the meaning and true nature. Epiphanies also are "aha" moments - when a truth becomes clear! Watch for such moments of truth through this season as they occur in worship, Scripture, relationships, and the world around us.
