West Linn Lutheran Church is pleased to announce an art exhibit and art class. The exhibit, “Wonder. Discover. Begin.” was curated by Vonda Drees and Sarah Jane of the Grünewald Guild in Leavenworth, Washington. This exhibit of the Creative Spirits Gallery in the church for the months of September and October will set the theme for the new art year.
Holy presence in unexpected places, the courage to act in spite of our own imperfections, and the messy possibilities of new beginnings are just some of the ideas that drive these 17 original works of art. The exhibit includes paintings, ceramics, calligraphy, enamels, textile arts, and more. Exhibiting artists were chosen from among the faculty and resident artists at the Grünewald Guild in Leavenworth, WA, which produced the exhibit. The Creative Spirits Gallery is open to the public Monday through Thursday, 9:00 am – 2:00 pm, Tuesday evenings, Sunday mornings, and any other time the church is open at 20390 Willamette Drive in West Linn (www.wllc.org). Registrations are still being accepted for a class in Suminashi Paper Marbling by Liz Walker on September 14 and 15, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm. at the church. Complete description of the class, costs, supply lists, and registration information can be found at www.wllc.org/art-classes.html. Students will learn how to create beautiful marbled papers using sumi inks and rice paper. The process is meditative, mesmerizing, and creates subtle, found-in-nature patterns that are one-of-a-kind. The marble paper can be used with collage and painting methods for beautiful new creations. Learn more about Liz Walker at www.lizwalkerart.com.
