Many years ago, during a difficult period in my life, I had an experience that shifted my landscape.

On a cold walk home very late one night, I looked up and saw a full rainbow, shining brightly in a circle all the way around the moon.  Everything stopped for me in that moment.  All of my pain and loneliness evaporated, and my mind went still.  For a few precious moments, I was fully present, my silent sense of wonder crowding out all of the noise that had been filling my head.  Nothing existed except me, the moon, and its brilliant rainbow halo.

The unexpected beauty of that moment was enough to transform my pain into wonder, my hurt into hope.  Though I would not realize it for some time, I had also just been given a powerful glimpse into my life's work.

Photography, for me, is a way of seeking out moments of transformative awe and healing wonder.  The art form teaches me to be still, both physically and mentally, and forces me to really see what is in front of me.  When I am successful, it is also an incredible tool of compassion and generosity, as I give these experiences of awe and wonder to the viewer.   It is as if I can package the moments of peace that I find in my own meditative art form, and offer them up as gifts for others to partake in.

My focus on providing art for healthcare settings stems from a desire to do the greatest possible good with my art.  The revelations of Evidence-Based Art research serve to confirm what I know intuitively: that the images I create can transport the viewer away from their suffering to a moment of relief.  A few slow breaths can be transformative, and I seek to provide my viewers with a space in which to take those breaths.

Glass Color and Light
When I discovered kiln formed glass, I found an artistic outlet for my love of linear and abstract design. Art Deco, which was influenced by Native American and Egyptian commposition, is a favorite inspiration for my glass creations. Using varied colors, layers and positions of glass, firing at specified schedules and finishing with cold working techniques, I am able to create a unique design containing spirits of the past.

I have been working with kiln formed glass for 15 years. I fell in love with glass as a child and found my creative place once I discovered kiln formed glass. I have been in many art shows and galleries in the past years. Myt husband Bob and I live in rural Oregon City.

Art is like the air we breathe. By combining warm glass and acrylic painting, each piece tells a in a new and exciting way.  The process begins with full sheets of Bulls eye fusible glass. It is then free hand cut into desired shapes and hand ground. These in turn are used to develop unique designs inspired by the glass itself and accompanying painting. Once the design is finalized, the glass is cleaned and covered in a layer of clear ground glass. The edges are cleaned to avoid sharp edges and then placed delicately in the kiln. Once all of pieces have been set in place, additional glass is used to preserve the structural integrity of the art form. My goal is to leave as many open spaces as possible to allow other painted designs to show through. The glass is then melted to over 1400 degrees F.
My goal with warm glass is to find a way to express myself by pushing the boundaries of technology. I wonder why we need two layers of glass? How much open space is feasible? The answers to these and other questions have led me to some amazing creations. I have not yet reached my limit and continue to push to  more complex pieces.
My studio resides in the small town of Netarts, Oewfon where I have three kilns that run almost continuously on the weekends.   Please enjoy!
