Today’s message is presented by Mikka McCracken, Program Director for Constituent Engagement and Interpretation, ELCA World Hunger. This is a recording of Mikka's presentation to the participants of the recent ELCA Youth Gathering in Detroit.
In the audio file, Pastor Fred Sickert leads us into today’s message by reading the Gospel lesson, the story of the loaves and fishes. Jan Sickert then introduces Mikka’s video. Following the video, WLLC members Bob and Janet Raes, activists fighting hunger in our region, provide some local statistics, and tell us how we can be engaged in the fight against this problem of inequality right here in West Linn and Clackamas County… for as Mikka says in her message, “Hunger is not a problem of scarcity… hunger is a problem of inequality.” If you wish to watch Mikka’s video, you may find it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JyNdMl-TC0I |

PASTOR TIM HERZFELDT-KAMPRATH “...with us in our faith journey” The growth of faith is a mystery. We can do the best we can to provide good soil. Still, the faith seems to take root and grow in some people and not in others. And then there are people raised in the worst conditions who grow to be strong people of faith. Jesus reminds us that faith is a gift which comes to us from God. We cannot control it in ourselves, and we cannot control it in others. It is God who brings the growth and the Holy Spirit who gives us faith. |
sunday, june 21 “... with loving, healing touch”
Who is like that in my life today? Where do I go to access this steady, heady love and truth? We have so many practitioners of so many things - yet through it all our God remains true and deep and present with us. How we access that is really the gift of the Spirit in our lives and through others! How often do we assume that God's power is not enough to bring life out of the seemingly impossible choices we make? We are challenged to open up the interruptions and hard choices of our lives to Jesus' power to bring life out of death. O Holy Spirit, Make the deeper connections with us! |
sunday, june 28NO AUDIO AVAILABLE“...in the (whirl)wind of ‘what matters most’” Fear is a powerful emotion - sometimes keeping us from seeing and interacting with the deeper truths. The followers wonder, who can control this power? The answer is none other than the all-powerful Lord God. "Who then is this?" but the Lord of all! The God who in the beginning brought order to the chaotic face of the deep now in Christ brings peace as we face the storm. And that, dear friends is what matters most! |
